Carnegie Robotics maintains a strategic relationship with Carnegie Mellon's National Robotics Engineering Center (NREC) -- one of the worlds best applied robotics research centers -- to build rock-solid robotic and sensing components based on cutting-edge technology. CRL seeks product-oriented software engineers with high energy and drive, superior problem solving skills, and independent decision-making abilities.  The ideal applicant for this position has brains, creativity, and strong experience in developing C and C++ software for robotics and/or sensing applications.

Requirements include:

  • Strong C and C++ development skills.
  • Excellent software engineering habits.
  • Familiarity with development in LINUX-based development environments.
  • Experience with version control systems such as subversion and mercurial.
  • Working knowledge of software debugging and profiling tools.
  • A good background in data structures and algorithms.
  • US citizenship or permanent residency.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Experience with robotic applications including perception and planning.
  • Experience with embedded systems and real-time operating systems.
  • Strong math skills and familiarity with linear algebra,

Primary software activities will include extensive C and C++ coding to develop robot control software, operator interfaces, hardware drivers, perception and planning algorithms, and a host of other exciting software modules.
